Description

This was my first sighting of a Raven in the wild. The Raven was perched along the water near Numa Falls in British Columbia, it paused long enough for me to capture this moment in August 2025. Numa Falls is located along the Vermilion River in Kootenay National Park, British Columbia, Canada. My daughter and I had been up since around 3am for our sunrise visit to Moraine Lake and then Lake Louise. Upon returning to Banff from the sunrise tour, we had a very long day of driving with our final destination of the day being Hinton, AB which is North of Jasper. We took the Bow Valley Parkway from Banff and had a great encounter with an Elk. We then headed South at Castle Junction to see Numa Falls, which while nice, was underwhelming to me. Ravens are known for their intelligence, curiosity, and problem solving, and many cultures see them as symbols of transformation, insight, or messages carried between worlds. In nature, they’re observant and adaptable, and often appear when something in your environment is shifting or worth paying attention to. This one watched the river, the forest, and occasionally, us!
